EVIL GENIUS
Evil Genius are a duo of evil music scientists from the UK. Having started out as a band (Lucas on Guitar/Vocals and Russell on Drums) EG have a strong foundation of musicality ready to be injected into every project. Lucas grew up in the 90’s taking in contemporary artists of the decade such as Radiohead, Cranberries, Coldplay etc whilst also listening to classic artists from the 60’s & 70’s such as David Bowie, Pink Floyd and the Beatles. Russell grew up listening to old house and hip hop records played to him by his dad whilst being trained in funk and jazz as a drummer. The pair use these musical references to influence different parts of their creation process. Their love for hip-hop and dance production techniques can be heard clearly in their beats and vocal sonics, whilst their appreciation for classic song writing can be heard more in their taste for lush and sometimes complex harmonic movement.
Taking the Rubin approach of following their gut instincts, combining anything that interests and inspires them across all boundaries of genre. Evil Genius are obsessed with finding the unique elements of an artist's sound and bringing them to the forefront. They encourage their artists to be the boldest and most authentic artistic representation of themselves whilst also expanding their own artistic horizons in order to create exciting new pieces. As open minded creatives with productions that span across a world of genres, the Evil Genius sound can be hard to describe at times - the boys prefer to think instead as there being an “Evil Genius Process.” The varied work flow that comes from working with a diverse roster of artists is something that continually inspires Evil Genius. “I like being able to wear different hats depending on who’s in the studio that day.” Says Russell.
